Services
What I handle
Every engagement starts with a written scope and a fixed fee, so you know the number before the work begins. No hourly surprises.
Nonprofit tax
Forms 990, 990-EZ, and 990-T, exemption applications, and the mid-year questions that decide whether next year's return is simple or complicated.
Built forOrganizations filing their first 990 or their thirtieth
Business tax
Partnership, S corporation, and C corporation returns, with planning conversations through the year rather than a scramble in March.
Built forClosely held companies and professional practices
Individual tax
Personal returns for owners, executives, landlords, and families whose situation involves more than a W-2 and a standard deduction.
Built forPeople with businesses, property, or equity compensation
CFO services & consulting
Monthly close, budgeting, cash forecasting, board reporting, and audit preparation — at whatever level you need, for as long as you need it. Often the fastest way to fix a rough audit before it happens again.
Built forOrganizations between a bookkeeper and a full-time CFO
Audit readiness
Getting your books, schedules, and supporting documentation in shape before your auditors arrive. After thirty-six years on the other side of that table, I know what they're going to ask for and where organizations usually get caught short.
Built forAnyone dreading their first audit, or their last one
About
Meet Doug Erwin
I've been in public accounting since 1990, working with nonprofits, charter schools, closely held businesses, and the people who run them. I spent thirty years in Smyrna before moving to Alabama, and most of my clients are still in Georgia — which is why I'm licensed in both states and work across both.
What I offer is straightforward: you deal with me. Not an account manager who passes your file to someone else, and not a different set of staff every year who have to be told your situation from scratch. After thirty-six years, I've seen most of what comes up, and I can usually tell you on the phone whether something is a real problem or not.

Process
How an engagement works
Three steps, in this order, every time.
-
STEP 01
We talk
A call to understand your organization, your fiscal year end, your funders, and what your board expects to see. No charge, and no obligation.
-
STEP 02
You get it in writing
An engagement letter with the scope, the deliverables, the timeline, and the fee — before any work starts. No surprises on either side.
-
STEP 03
Work and delivery
Document requests sent early, questions answered as they come up, and a finished return or report in hand ahead of your deadline rather than on top of it.

Let's talk about your year
The best time to call about tax work is well before the deadline, and the best time to talk about CFO help is before the problem gets expensive. Happy to give you a fee estimate after one conversation.
